'The History of the Pikes Peak Snow Run'
Presented by Manitou Springs Heritage Museum at Manitou Springs Heritage Museum Manitou Springs, CO
The Manitou Springs Heritage Museum is excited to launch a new winter exhibit on March 14 called “The History of the Pikes Peak Snow Run,” chronicling motorcycle races to the Pikes Peak summit on New Year’s Day from 1938 to 1982. Learn about the Snow Run throughout the decades: the Snow Run pioneers in the 1930s and 1940s, mid-century madness in the 1950s and 1960s and the reckless abandon that came with the 1970s and 1980s. The exhibit will feature photographs by Pulitzer Prize winner Bob Jackson and by Jim Bensberg along with other artifacts. The opening reception starts at 10 am and will feature a live interview with legendary motorcyclist Bill Brokaw. The Snow Run’s advertising poster boldly claimed “Not for the Rose Parade on TV Types!” In its 44-year history, the Snow Run frightened, frustrated and froze those brave motorcycle racers who dared this feat of what some say was madness.
