Artists have always been instrumental in envisioning new futures, solving complex challenges, and helping communities imagine what is possible. Engaging in the policymaking process at the local, state, and federal levels is an important way to create lasting, systemic change that supports the arts, culture, and creative industries.

Presented by Meredith Badler of the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA), this workshop will explore recent developments that have aligned priorities and built momentum for Colorado’s arts and culture sector at the state legislature.

Participants will gain an overview of Colorado’s Arts Policy Framework, an intentional and inclusive advocacy roadmap designed to advance the state’s arts, culture, and creative industries. The session will also provide a recap of the 2026 legislative session, including key policy developments and the passage of legislation creating a new business entity specifically designed for artists. Attendees will leave with a stronger understanding of the current advocacy landscape, opportunities for civic engagement, and ways the arts can continue to contribute to community well being, economic vitality, and quality of life throughout the Pikes Peak region and across Colorado.

This presentation is hosted by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region in partnership with the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts.
