'A Midsummer Night's Dream'
Presented by Pikes Peak State College at Studio West Colorado Springs, CO
Athens is abuzz in preparation for the wedding of Duke Theseus and the Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. A group of bumbling townsfolk rehearse a play to honor the nuptial celebrations. Four star-crossed lovers escape to the forest to avoid unwanted engagements. The King and Queen of the fairies squabble in a custody battle and meddle with the humans who have strayed in the woods. Add a mischievous sprite, a misadministrated love potion, and a melodramatic donkey… will what happens in the forest stay in the forest? Under the direction of Sarah Sheppard Shaver, PPSC rising star current students and fan-favorite theatre alumni reunite to upend expectations of this much-beloved story in our fast-paced adaptation on our unsupervised 80s tree fort of a set, all jam-packed into our intimate Mulliken Black Box. Content Advisory: Brief fog and disco lights. Approximate rating of PG for fairies, love potions, Shakespearean innuendo, and physical comedy shenanigans. 'R.U.R. 'by Karel Čapek
Presented by Springs Ensemble Theatre at Springs Ensemble Theatre Colorado Springs, CO
Fresh off a completely sold out run of The Shark is Broken, Springs Ensemble Theatre (SET) continues its sixteenth season with R.U.R. by Karel Čapek, adapted and directed by SET member Matt Phillips. Performances run November 6 to 23, 2025, at Springs Ensemble Theatre in the 59er Speakeasy in Old Colorado City. To see the future, sometimes you have to look to the past. Before there was "Blade Runner", before there was Asimov's "I, Robot", before there was Lang's "Metropolis", there was...R.U.R.: See the start of AI. Director and adaptor Matt Phillips brings a bold new vision to this landmark work that coined the term “robot.” A graduate of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and a young local theatre artist, Phillips is in his first year as a member of Springs Ensemble Theatre. His adaptation strips away mechanical stereotypes and highlights the human themes at the heart of the play. “R.U.R. is not just a story about robots. It is about us, right now, living in a world where technology is advancing faster than our ability to understand its impact. This play asks what it means to be human when efficiency and productivity take precedence over everything else,” said Phillips. 'The Importance of Being Earnest'
Presented by Ent Center for the Arts at Ent Center for the Arts Colorado Springs, CO
Written by Oscar Wilde and Directed by Kathryn Walsh. Wit, romance, and mistaken identities take center stage in The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde’s sharpest and most sparkling comedy. When Jack and Algernon invent alter egos to escape social obligations, they soon find themselves tangled in secret romances, imaginary relatives, and cucumber sandwich etiquette. This “trivial comedy for serious people” was last performed by Theatreworks in 2006 and returns in a production bursting with charm and linguistic brilliance. Directed by Kathryn Walsh (Twelfth Night, Little Women) and featuring longtime collaborator Birgitta DePree (Othello, Taming of the Shrew) as the formidable Lady Bracknell, Wilde’s beloved farce reminds us that the truth is rarely as fashionable as a well-timed lie. 'Between the Land and Sky'
Presented by UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art at Ent Center for the Arts Colorado Springs, CO
Between the Land and Sky Karla García 2025 F.E.A.R.S Artist Reflecting on past works, García reimagine a landscape composed of recycled ceramic grasses, concrete blocks, and terra cotta cacti sculptures. The glazed surfaces of the cacti evoke a starry night sky embedded in their forms, drawing connections between the cosmos and sacred land. This body of work merges myth and material. García continue her reflections on the exiled desert goddess Malinalxochitl and the poetry of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz—voices that shape stories across time and space. In this terrain, the cacti become sacred beings, and the grasses act as connective tissue: linking the land beneath to ourselves, to the sky above. García’s process remains grounded in traditional hand-building techniques, yet the forms appear to shrink, expand, and shift like breath or memory. Through these gestures, she invite viewers to pause and consider the landscape not as backdrop, but as a living record of resilience, transformation, and sacred connection. VACS: Karla García 2025 F.E.A.R.S. Artist Description Karla García is the 2025 Female Emerging Artists Residency Series (F.E.A.R.S.) artist. This residency series is an experimental program that invites artists early in their professional careers to UCCS to participate in a residency, solo-exhibition, and academic classes. F.E.A.R.S. is now a collaborative initiative between the UCCS Visual Arts Department (VAPA) and GOCA. Karla García (1977, Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico) is a Texas-based artist originally from Mexico. Her ceramic sculptural installations are rooted in her Mexican heritage and informed by personal and cultural memory, historical…

'Sofa King Abstract'
Presented by Cottonwood Center for the Arts at Cottonwood Center for the Arts Colorado Springs, CO
Where do our works of art end up? The pieces we painstakingly toss our souls into, the things we make that leave all of ourselves behind on the canvas, in the clay, woven into a fabric shadow of ourselves. Maybe they get famous. Maybe they live in a drawer or behind doors. But if they sell...they have a new identity to face; how they get along with the existing furniture of the buyer. For this open call we asked artists to consider perhaps the artists' biggest foe, the ubiquitous sofa as an inspiration point. Our team selected and purchased a vintage sofa. This exhibition asked creatives for Abstract Art, using the exact pictured sofa as their muse. Artists were allowed to submit up to three pieces for consideration. Works must have been made to pair with only the sofa pictured.
