Federal Arts Policy Updates

The Cultural Office is Informed & Involved

As the local arts agency for El Paso & Teller counties of Colorado, the Cultural Office is closely following the evolving Executive Orders and policy changes in Washington D.C. and their effects on the creative sector. Our Executive Director, Angela Seals, is regularly participating in calls and updates with leaders from Americans for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, Colorado Creative Industries, Colorado Business Committee for the Arts, and more to understand policies, response, and guidance. In mid-March, Angela will meet with legislators in Denver as part of the Day at the Capitol with the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC, representing the local creative sector.

COPPR is a nonpartisan organization committed to supporting our region’s creative workers, businesses, and nonprofits to thrive across time and changing policies.

How You Can Be Informed & Involved

  •  Join the Colorado Arts Action Network (CAAN.) Colorado Arts Action Network (CAAN) is a grassroots mobilization platform that makes it easy for arts advocates to communicate directly with elected representatives and support state and federal policy initiatives in support of the arts and creative economy. It is a program of the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts.

Championing Our Interests is Part of ArtsVision2030

ArtsVision2030, the Pikes Peak Region’s ten-year cultural plan released in 2021, anticipated that in this decade our arts community would need to find more footing in collective advocacy. It’s fifth Declaration (goal) reads:

We are powerful together and our voices matter. We commit to speaking up and wielding our influence to CHAMPION CREATIVE INTERESTS in local and regional decisions.

As the Cultural Office further develops our role in this kind of influence, we also support our diverse creative community’s influence. Civic dialogue has long been a part of what the arts do well! We encourage the artists and creatives whose ongoing engagement in civic life, political action, or seeking elected office benefits our region’s future. Read specific ideas for championing creative interests – and much more – in ArtsVision2030 online here.

"We are writing to remind you not to get distracted, deflated or frozen. ... You have been working for years for this moment. Every crisis can be an opportunity and this presidential administration’s earliest days have lessons for us. "
