The strings of the Chamber Orchestra bring their artistry to the far reaches of the string repertoire, from the joyful dances of Holst’s “St. Paul’s Suite,” to the mesmerizing flow of Pärt’s “Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten,” the otherworldly beauty of Tippett’s “Fantasia Concertante on a Theme of Corelli,” and the youthful energy of Mendelssohn’s “Swiss” String Symphony, composed when he was only fourteen years old.  The strings are the heart of the orchestra; repertoire like this shows why.

How will our virtual concerts work?
Our musicians will be recording in a private, physically-distanced session at First Christian Church. The final recording will include information about the repertoire, reflections on what it is like to perform in this time of Covid-19, and more! The concert videos will be made available via private link beginning on Sunday, September 27 and you will be able to watch them at your convenience in the comfort of your own home. Access will be available for 3 months. We hope you’ll sit and relax, grab something to eat and drink, and enjoy these performances, made just for you!

Thank you for your support in keeping the music alive in Colorado Springs.

Five of the most brilliant composers, speaking to each other across two centuries. Mozart flows with perfect form and grace, Beethoven shakes up Mozart’s staid world, Tchaikovsky digs even deeper into the human condition and channels Shakespeare in an elegy to the agonized Hamlet, Grieg takes us to the beautiful Romantic landscapes of Norway in a vision of hope and loss, and Joan Trimble brings the spirit of the Romantic into the Twentieth Century with a stunning Suite for Strings that will leave you dancing at the end.  It’s a musical dialogue across time; come be part of it.

The F.E.A.R.S exhibit is currently featuring artist Danielle Rae Miller. She received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and her MFA from the University of New Mexico.

Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally in both solo and group exhibitions, and is included in public and private collections, including the State of New Mexico’s Art in Public Places Program, The City of Albuquerque’s 1% for the Arts Public Art Collection, and the Arjo Wiggins Paper Corporation. Miller teaches at CNM Community College and the Institute of American Indian Arts.

Danielle Rae Miller’s works are dense compositions of plant, animal, and insect life realistically drawn with fine line ink on both sides of translucent vellum to create transparency, depth, and interaction between elements. Miller uses images with pre-attached meanings in our human mythologies—snakes, bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, beetles, roses, sunflowers, the human heart, ribcage, Daand pelvis—to engage an emotional response in viewers, to gently nudge individual and cultural memories, and hint at broader connections between all forms of life on this planet.

The Female Emerging Artists Residency Series was co-founded by Corey Drieth, Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing, UCCS Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) and Dr. Katherine Guinness, VAPA’s Director of Art History, in 2018. It features emerging professional artists of merit in residence at GOCA Downtown.

Cottonwood Center for the Arts is excited to present a juried exhibition, composed of artists from across the Pikes Peak region, working across every size and medium within the theme of labels and their application in the arts.

A label is the branding or packaging of a product. Art and design come together to elicit emotional and physical responses about the product behind the label.

From craft beers and spirits to hot sauces, a perfectly labeled bottle can compel our selection as much or more than its contents. This call for entries asks artists to create an actual label for a real or imagined product. Labels may be enlarged for display purposes and must be presented either adhered to a product or appropriately framed and wired. Alternatively, a label can be the way a person or group of people is categorized, defined, or stereotyped.

Unlike product branding, this label is usually negative, describing its target in a limited, narrow, overly simple way. This call for entries asks artists to create work that addresses social labeling. All media will be represented, except for collages made out of actual labels.
