Coffee with COPPeR: October is Arts Month!

Arts Month CoffeeThe Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region (COPPeR) is excited to announce that it will be orchestrating a new Arts Month initiative this coming October. A formal announcement for the effort will take place during a “Coffee with COPPeR” summit at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, June 24 with coffee beginning at 8:30AM and the presentation beginning at 9:00AM. The summit is free and open to anyone wishing to learn more about how to get involved. Clear here for photos from the event.

Our community’s Arts Month celebration will coincide with National Arts & Humanities Month, which was established in 1993 and is celebrated every October throughout the United States. The national program was initiated to encourage Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong habit of participation in the arts and humanities. It has become the nation’s largest collective annual celebration of the arts. This is the first time the Pikes Peak region will join the effort across the nation.

Locally, the Arts Month initiative will take the form of a grassroots marketing campaign designed to showcase the many exciting arts & cultural events that will take place across the Pikes Peak region throughout the month of October. A special landing page will be created at www.peakradar.com/artsmonth to provide visitors to the website with comprehensive programming details, and contact information for participating artists and arts organizations. Arts Month will also be punctuated by several key events this year including a “kick-off party” on Wednesday, October 1 from 6-9PM at The Mansion, COPPeR’s annual Business and Arts Lunch on October 7, the Pikes Peak Arts Council’s annual “Awards for Artistic Excellence” ceremony on October 15, and a weekend workshop for area creatives and entrepreneurs presented by COPPeR and the Arts Incubator of the Rockies (AIR) from October 24-26. Arts Month is sponsored, in part, by the Anschutz Foundation and the Tiemens Fund for the arts.

“Arts Month is an opportunity for us to focus attention on the arts through the local media, to encourage the participation of area individuals in the arts, to provide an opportunity for local business, government and civic leaders to declare their support for the arts, and to generally raise public awareness about the arts in our community,” said Andy Vick, executive director of COPPeR.
