PPW Write Brain: Embracing Brevity: Drabbles, Micro Fiction, and Flash Fiction with Angela Sylvaine
Presented by Pikes Peak Writers at Online/Virtual Space
While extra short fiction has roots as old as the written word, these forms have experienced a modern resurgence in the digital age, allowing writers and publishers to capture their readers' interest and leave them wanting more. Learn how and why to write drabbles, micro, and flash fiction and leave with prompts and current or upcoming submission opportunities. This workshop will focus on speculative fiction and will include an exercise on writing drabbles (100 word stories). Angela Sylvaine is a Bram Stoker Award finalist and self-proclaimed cheerful goth who writes speculative fiction and poetry. Her novel, Frost Bite, a ‘90s sci-fi horror comedy, and her retro ‘80s YA mall slasher novella, Chopping Spree, embody her cheerful side. Her short story collection, The Dead Spot: Stories of Lost Girls is fully goth and heartbreaking. Angela’s short fiction and poetry have appeared in over sixty anthologies, magazines, and podcasts, including Southwest Review, Apex, and The NoSleep Podcast. You can find her online at angelasylvaine.com. Zoom/Meeting Info: You’ll receive the Zoom invite after you’ve registered. Visit this event on our calendar at pikespeakwriters.org to register. Cats and people have coexisted for an estimated 12,000 years. There is no shortage of feline chicanery, mischief and hilarious misconduct documented throughout history, and for this call we asked artists to celebrate it to the point of aggrandization. Entries of all mediums and styles were accepted, as long as they saluted the cheeky delinquency of our feline companions in an intentional way.
