MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES FOR ARTS EDUCATORS

The arts are a tool to address mental health in our classrooms and in our communities. We are diving into this important work through developing professional development that addresses trauma using the arts, providing community resources and bringing arts educators together on a regular basis. We strive to use the arts as a means to create awareness and healing on this topic.

Addressing Trauma through the Arts PD

In partnership with El Paso County Public Health, 20 educators have been convening the last 3 months to learn the effects of trauma on brain development and how the arts can help. They are sharing and creating their own arts strategies to be used to address trauma behaviors with the populations they serve. Educators are marrying our newfound knowledge about the science of the brain with arts concepts and will finalize an arts tool-kit that will be a resource for teachers, counselors, administrators, teaching artists, arts organizations, and community members.
