Alisa Banks: 'Unerased'
Presented by Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College Colorado Springs, CO
Alisa Banks: "Unerased" Holaday and Seagraves Galleries Alisa Banks (American, b. 1961) is a book, fiber, and multimedia artist whose work explores the links between contemporary culture, her Louisiana Creole heritage, and the African diasporaโincluding those of African descent who have been torn from their homeland.ย Alisa Banks: Unerasedย looks into these histories by digging into ancestral pasts. In her work, Banks uses textiles, fibers, and plants as ways of to record knowledge. She explores the idea of โroot readingโโlooking at the histories and stories of people disconnected from Western literacy. The word โrootโ has many meanings: the culture of oneโs ancestors, the part of a plant that provides nourishment, the base of a strand of hair, the origin of a word. The artistโs books, mixed media work, and textile collages in this exhibition dig into these various roots. Her works feature handwriting, plants, hair, and other fibers, using traditional craft processes such as embroidery, sewing, and beading. The multi-dimensional works inย Unerased challenge the systemic erasure of Black American history and honor Banksโs personal and ancestral roots. They also invite the viewer to consider home, terrain, and body as forms of history, helping to foster pride, understanding, and connectedness. The exhibition honors Black American history, challenges systemic erasure, and invites reflection on identity, heritage, and connection to oneโs roots.

Kendra Page Stone - 'Viverra Animalibus'
Presented by Cottonwood Center for the Arts at Cottonwood Center for the Arts Colorado Springs, CO
Cottonwood Center for the Arts is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by local photographer Kendra Page Stone for the month of July: Viverra Animalibus. From the Artist: Viverra Animalibus represents the first edition of a lifelong passion project I'm eager to expand upon. Each photograph in this collection is titled according to the conservation status of the featured species, ranging from critically endangered to least concerned. These images serve not only as a visual representation of their unique personalities but also as a reminder of the current state of our planetโs biodiversity. I had the unique opportunity to connect with these remarkable animals and learn their individual stories. Unfortunately, humanity often adopts a self-centered perspective that overlooks the needs and existence of other beings. Our planet is designed for symbiotic relationships, and witnessing its decline is a profound wake-up call for me. It is a privilege to capture the diverse animals that share our world, and I aspire to leave an indelible mark on your heart through my photographs. ย This calendar listing is brought to you by Peak Radar, the Pikes Peak region's one-stop, online website for arts and entertainment events, powered by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region.
