'Open-Hearted'
Presented by Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College Colorado Springs, CO
Open-Hearted Holaday and Seagraves Galleries Open-Hearted examines the history, meaning, and contemporary realities of health care and well-being. Moving beyond the individualistic framework of “self-care,” the exhibition reframes wellness as a collective project—one that necessitates an expansion of public health infrastructures across many levels of society. This framing emphasizes, as writer Corrine Fitzpatrick suggests, that “health is always in relation to power.” While the title evokes a sensibility of kindness (and by extension, the ideal capacities of health care to be preventative, diagnostic, and/or relieving), it also suggests an invasive medical procedure, thereby drawing a connection to the risk and vulnerability inherent in both. Featuring works made between 1986 to 2025—a period framed by two significant epidemics, AIDS and COVID-19—the show features a variety of media, including design, weaving, sculpture, video, and installation, that explore our medical system’s forms, objects, spaces, and communication systems. Some works advocate for increased access to vital life-saving information and for an expansion of public health resources led by disability, chronic illness, and neurodiversity activism. Others investigate how physical space invites or inhibits access, demonstrating how architecture can engender both care and control. Finally, the show will also feature works that critically engage with the history of medical research, shedding light on the violence and harm perpetuated by the medical system and its infrastructure throughout time. Artists featured in the exhibition include: MG Bernard, Gregg Bordowitz, Melissa Cody, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Ben Gould, Xandra Ibarra, Kapwani Kiwanga, Jade Guanaro Kuriki-Olivo, Carolyn Lazard, Kate Leonard, Ani Liu, Jordan…

2026: Sparky LeBold, a Retrospective
Presented by Cottonwood Center for the Arts at Cottonwood Center for the Arts Colorado Springs, CO
About the Artist: LeBold has made a name for himself both in America and abroad over the course of his stellar career. Since graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California (1986), he has been inducted into Who's Who in American Art (2002), has held fifteen One-Man Shows across America and in Europe, and recognized as a National Artist of Portugal, where townspeople of Sesimbra have lovingly nicknamed him “Picasso Americano”. LeBold's oil paintings are inspired by the beauty he has experienced while traveling all over the world. His ability to translate what we see in nature onto canvases large and small has resonated with corporate and private collectors for the past 41 years and captured the attention of The Artist’s Magazine when they listed him as “one of the top 50 landscape painters in America”. LeBold’s work is full of emotion and spirit, reflecting his desire to communicate and raise awareness for the beauty in nature that we may overlook. His images hold your attention, touch your soul and leave an imprint that lingers. Not to mention, he has a sweet ponytail. This is who I am...as honest as I can be. I consider this to be the most important Show of my career...a prelude of where I have traveled and a lighted tunnel to where I am trying to land. This Show is about giving what I have without exception and hoping to find an audience to accept it; and if not, I lay my worth…

'Solastalgic Archive'
Presented by Ent Center for the Arts at Ent Center for the Arts Colorado Springs, CO
Conceived by artist Nina Elder, the Solastalgic Archive holds materials that contextualize and give breadth to the experience of living and making in this time of accelerated change. The evolving archive of objects, images, and conceptual actions collects ephemera of memory, creation, forgetting, destruction, preciousness and transience offered by contributors. It is an evolving, changing, temporal entity that will continue to grow as it is enriched by additions connected to each host venue. Beginning in 2019 with more than 40 artists, and continuing to grow throughout it’s many showings, Elder invites fellow climate conscious artists, scholars and public intellectuals, as well as farmers, spiritual practitioners, indigenous leaders, and activists to contribute something that represents the “solastalgic”. Much like the practicalities of a traditional time capsule, each submission has had only one physical requirement: it must fit in a medium flat rate USPS postal box; boxes in which the exhibition’s objects continue to be carefully stored and moved from venue to venue. The Solastalgic Archive holds contributions from a vast array of people, each asked to consider what connects them to the passage time. Unlike other museum collections, the Solastalgic Archive holds deeply personal items as well as things that change or disappear over time. Harnessing solastalgia as the archives’ organizing principle, the collections exemplify transformation rather than permanence, fleeting relationships rather than immutable. By allowing emotions and ephemerality to displace institutional indifference and contrived eternities, this space enlivens the passage of time. Installed in GOCA’s Project Space, the Solastalgic Archive will evolve over the course of the exhibition…
