Coffee with COPPeR events are public gatherings to learn about and discuss major advances in our region’s Cultural Plan. Join us for a major announcement of COPPeR’s plans to launch a region-wide Arts Month advocacy campaign this October, in conjuction with National Arts & Humanities Month. We can’t do it alone. Find out how you or your arts group can join the movement!

Here is a sampling of arts news from May:

  • Congratulations to Velvet Hills Chorus who won the 2014 Sweet Adelines Region 8 Chorus Competition! They’re now qualified for the International Competition, where last year they placed 11th in the world.  (5/6)
  • David Sckolnik has just started a new blog at The Gazette called “Artbytes” that is all about the arts in our area. Check it out when you get a chance: http://blogs.gazette.com/artbytes/ (5/9)
  • May was Preservation Month! The Colorado Springs Historic Preservation Board celebrated with talks about creative reuse of urban spaces at The Modbo & SPQR Galleries and The Ivywild School. (5/13)
  • UCCS announced selection of Denver’s Semple Brown Design as the “Architect of Record” for their upcoming Visual and Performing Arts Center. Renderings to be unveiled this summer. (5/14)
  • KOAA Channel 5 highlighted an inspiring workshop by the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center that helped victims of the 2013 Black Forest Fire continue to heal by making artwork from salvaged keepsakes. (5/19)
  • The Bee Vradenburg Foundation and Wells Fargo Advisors hosted a private reception at The Mining Exchange hotel downtown to welcome several arts leaders new to their roles in the past year: George Preston, General Manager of KCME Classical Radio, Nora Hardin, Executive Director of Pikes Peak Arts Council, and Andy Vick, Executive Director of COPPeR. The Mural Project has partnered with Project Wounded Ego to create murals painted by soldiers that will be exhibited the local Veteran’s Day Parade, the Wounded Warrior Project headquarters and ultimately to Washington D.C. They raised funding for the collaboration at a fundraiser at Stargazers Theatre. (5/24).

Summer Outreach for the Arts and PeakRadar.com

BOOTHEach year, COPPeR takes advantage of popular summer festivals and events around the region to promote the local arts scene and invite people to find cultural events, artists, organizations and opportunities through PeakRadar.com. This year, our booth is better than ever, featuring an interactive game to win free arts experiences (like tickets, classes, studio tours, etc.)!
