March News from COPPeR
Andy with Nora Hardin, E.D. of Pikes Peak Arts Council
Hard to believe that I’ve already been here at COPPeR for over a month! Seems like it was just yesterday that my wife Beth and I were packing up our belongings in Western Maryland for the long drive across the country to Colorado. And yet, it also seems like we’ve already been here forever. Everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and I’ve really enjoyed visiting the area’s cultural attractions and meeting so many of the talented, passionate and generous people who power this creative community.
I’m equally excited about all the good things that COPPeR is planning for the coming months; publication of the newest Peak Radar Pages and Peak Radar Guides, a new series of educational Bootcamps, a new and improved Art in Storefronts program, and plans for a big celebration of local arts and culture this coming October during national Arts & Humanities month. Please stay in step with us as we march forward together toward a community united by creativity!
– Andy Vick, Executive Director

City for Champions “good for the creative community”
Arts leaders from across the Pikes Peak region have met several times in the past 2 months to learn more about the City for Champions projects and discuss points of connection. Though the initiative is still controversial in public discussion, we in the arts have opportunities to inform the process in ways that support cultural development and growth in cultural tourism while strengthening the relationship between our creative community and city leaders.
It was collectively decided that, as a first step, COPPeR would issue an official statement of support based on the shared benefits of increased tourism. The statement was released to the press and online on Feb. 27 and that night, COPPeR’s Executive Director Andy Vick delivered the statement personally to City Council during a public hearing at City Hall.
If you would like to be added to future discussions of these issues, we welcome your voice! E-mail us to join the process.
