City for Champions Good for Our Creative Community
At their monthly meeting on February 27, the COPPeR Board of Directors formally voted to support the City for Champions project.
“At its core, City for Champions is a tourism and economic development initiative that will bring tens of thousands of new visitors to the Colorado Springs area,” said COPPeR’s executive director Andy Vick. “According to a report commissioned in 2012, we know that out of town tourists already attend local art events and patronize existing cultural attractions throughout the community, helping the arts to generate an overall $72 million economic impact throughout the region. Out of town tourists also stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, and shop in our stores. These activities support local businesses and creative entrepreneurs, and generate additional Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax (LART) that is reinvested to help grow cultural & heritage tourism in our city.”
“In short, COPPeR believes that City for Champions is good for our creative community. We are proud to publicly offer our support, and we welcome the opportunity to work closely with the leaders of this initiative to help build this exciting vision for our City’s future into a successful reality for us all.”
